Last round of the Digicel 2012 Men's and Ladies League
I think Niall O'Sullivan will definitely concur that a huge round of applause must go to the 2012 Team Selection committees on picking very well matched teams in both the Men's and Ladies League. For the first time in years, both leagues are down to the wire in what promises to be a cracking day of Gaelic football.
Ladies League
This could not be closer going into the final round. Na Piarsaigh (Greens) lead by Olive McDonagh will take on Katherine Maw's Oliver Plunketts (Whites) in what is the deciding match of this years league. The Greens go into this game on 11 points and the Whites on 9. Should the Whites win by 9 points or more, they grasp this years league trophy from the clutches of defeat! Any other result will mean Na Piarsaigh will lift the Trophy for the first time since 1951 (or am I thinking of Mayo). Rumours are that Olive will be taking advise from Craig Levine and Giovanni Trapatoni in how to put together a non-attacking, ultra defensive team. It will be worth seeing if any of the greens venture past the halfway line. I'm sure Katherine and Rosie "Messi" O'Connor will be trying to carve this defense with some of their powerful drives forward. Best of luck to both teams in this match up and also to referee Howard Byrne who I'm sure will be kept busy on the pitch for the first time in years.
The other game sees Buffers Alley battle it out with the Sarsfields for the 3rd place spot. As you all know, for finals day, 4th place plays 1st and 2nd place 3rd so I'm sure neither of these teams want to prop up the bottom of the table.
Men's League
Like the ladies, the men's league has yet to be decided going into the last game. Gabriels, lead by the UK's finest, Ian Roberton & James Kennedy, are in pole position to win the title for Queen and Country. Surprisingly, there are actually more English men on this team than there are on Trapatoni's 23. They lead at the top of the table with the Western Gaels (Greens) trailing by 1 point. Should the Reds beat the Wolfe Tones (Whites) on Sunday, they will seal victory in the 2012 Digicel league. Dave O' Connell and the Greens will be trying to put some added pressure on the top with a victory over the Blues in the earlier game. Should the Reds slip up against Sully's band of brothers, Dave (being the good Kerryman that he is) will gladly take any undeserved victory with both hands! Rumours are already rife that Howard Byrne has paid for a weekend vacation for some of the whites in an attempt to clinch his first ever league title. All will be decided come Sunday!
Finals Day
As you are aware, finals day will be held at Caman Bay on the morning of June 26. We will then be moving to the Truman Bodden Stadium to watch the Cayman Islands v. Bahamas and have our afterparty celebrations down there. The Gaelic Club has bought a large number of tickets for its club members which will be distributed at Finals Day.
Cayman Islands v. Kingston Gaels
Match scheduled for June 2 in Cayman. Please contact Dermot O'Kelly at dermot.p.okelly[at]ky.pwc.com to enter your name for selection for this game. Always a great day out as Eamon Wilson well knows!
That's it for now!

The premiere event in the Caribbean Gaelic Football circuit returns as Jamaica make their annual pilgrimage to the birthplace of gaelic football in the Caribbean, the Cayman islands, to face the Caribbean Champions, the Cayman Gaels.
Details are still emerging about this fixture but it promises to be a lively encounter, with Jamaican gaffer Jimmy McElvenna sure to have a few crafty tricks up his sleeve. Kingston building sites are on high alert as the Jamaican Gaels are looking to add to their Wavin pipe goal post collection.
Cayman are bringing in a specialist coach from Dublin to co-manage the team alongside stalwart veteran, James Kennedy, his identity is still unknown but he may even tog out for a game and sign a few shirts after! Judging from the competitiveness, skill and pace of this years league, Cayman's management have a very strong panel to choose from and Jamaica will have a mountain to climb from the throw in.
Verdict: Cayman Gaels
